Government service: 1Malaysia e-mail & online MyKad

Read about these two things in news@Yahoo. See how amazing people respond to the report (Bernama) by replying & writing in the blog, website etc; can say it almost about the disagreement of RM50 million spent for this purpose (perhaps most of them came from our young generation).

Their reasons vary: what a waste (he said its not from public money, but a private project by Tricubes Bhd), we already have free e-mail lah! (which is true: yahoo, hotmail, gmail bla, bla, bla), better spend it to the poor, public's welfare...but there is none about rights violence. Couldn't say its agreed or not but personally I don't like the idea (hidden: beware, you're being watched!)

This is about our privacy and security..even we are already in the state that we are not free (IC, passport, whatever mechanism or tools created for any purposes). Still can't see what is exactly the logical reasons except to ease the connection between government & citizen (but we do have e-government, isn't it?)

And coming about the replacing of MyKad through web portal (Kosmo!). It's a good idea anyway, but government should ensure the system is effectively work before the implementation. Malaysia was one of the lower-ranked users of government on-line services, ranking 26th among the 31 countries and territories surveyed in the study by Taylor Nelson Sofres (2003). Users resistance, bandwidth problem, poor services and connection to Internet may contribute. Not to mention the distinction between the system located in urban with rural areas. So, I guess we should stabilize the infrastructure & the architecture of the system first. Be it 1Malaysia e-mail or online MyKad, the effective system should be installed as the priority!

A Millionaire Talks: Triple Power of Internet Business (point to ponder..)

Dr. Irfan was asked about the most effective way to expand the business between website, blog and facebook (fb). Replied, he gives the distinction features of those in order for us to see them clearly from SWOT perspectives:

1. Website: Static. Rarely updated. Functions: to sell whatever we want.

2. Blog: Differ in style & presentation. Interactive (comments). Updated with recent information.

3. Fb: Most popular social network. Connect to people & friends. Functions: serve the purpose of different level of users (new relationship, selling, purchasing etc.)

He concludes, why not to use all of them instead of choosing just one? The functions may be vary but these days we are demanding to be competitive.

..So friends, what we are waiting for? (^_^)

Virtual storage? Dropbox: A Solution

Hakuna matata! (No worries!)
There is an alternative to access, keep and share your data safely without thumb drive. Even to save them from virus. Dropbox is an Internet application and can keep synchronized our file where ever, whenever. It could be another example of cloud computing I guess!

Most important, we can do any activities in the Dropbox without Internet access! It's mean, Dropbox is able to connect file transferability even if there is none Internet connection through smart phone like Android, Black Berry and iPhone or iPad.

Ethics of using IT application

Recently we were being surprised by the news on politician misbehavior in Indonesia & Malaysia. This is not the first time it was happened. Either it refers to the 'doing of watching pornographic video or being involved in the scene', it presents the value and morale of a person.

This is among the most important issue due to the misuse of technology. Because we already been here; live in the digital era, its been difficult to find the right mechanism about controlling the people misbehavior. Children, teenagers and adults are easily being exposed to pornographic that can be find through the website, social network and advertisement online (Norhaini Mat Lajis).

Refers to an article (Kosmo! April 15), about 97% of secondary school students in Indonesia had access to pornographic sites. A research by Universitas Islam Indonesia finds 90.7% of Indonesia youth had experienced sexual harassment and 68.2% were admit having done sex. It's even more disgusting to find out the data from Associated Press that mentioned Indonesia was the second after Russia in disseminating pornography.

It's about information technology (IT), the tools and applications we are using to find the data, information and everything we want to know. Parents should be aware and responsible about monitoring their children activities in front of computers. However, we could not underestimate the power of IT application for which it falls on the wrong hand, it could be a nightmare to anyone of us. As globalization bring the advantages, it's also come with the weaknesses. IT could become a destructive weapon or useful tools at the hand of it's owner.

Teamworks destroyed by gadget addiction

It's not surprising about this title when we are looking towards the trend of recent society. In addition, Professor Graham Jones: a leading psychologist of performance development consultancy certainly thinks that it was evidence of a growing trend towards gadget addiction(Winder, 2007).

"The virtual office has indeed revolutionized the way we do business but what about the unwanted side effects when the line between business and pleasure becomes blurred? Managers may have the luxury of being able to manage their workload whenever wherever, but increasingly they’re losing their grip on a healthy work life balance. Today’s mobile manager is never ‘away from his desk’ and whether it’s an evening, a weekend or even a holiday abroad with the family, he or she is expected to be on call to deal with any eventuality".

The concern was about Blackberry culture is driving people towards a requirement to always be in touch with our boss, and a consequential inability to work properly without real lifeline. Plus, research done by The Work Foundation found that 30% of Britons are failing to take their annual leave entitlement and it is because they are too busy.

How about our situation in Malaysia? The big question mark is whether this dependence is a healthy one or not. Is there really any harm being done in making use of mobile technologies to keep in touch both on a personal and professional basis? Mobile working is the norm these days, and as long as we are sensible about it and allow ourselves some breathing space away from the desk in our pocket that should be okay, I guess..

Innovation through IT Strategy & Planning

This is not about the new lecture, nor further presentation (^_^) My eyes just captured an advertisement of Salamfone, the first ever shariah compliant mobile operator.

These days, we could say that the innovation become common through information technology (IT). Entrepreneurs' success and achievements were influenced by the combination of innovation and creativity to run their businesses. According to Scarborough (2011), its about thinking and doing new things or done old things in new ways.

Harian Metro for instance, a leading newspaper in Malaysia: start using iPad application to capture the user, regardless of location and time (Ainiza Zainuddin, 27 Mac 2011). Same goes with PEARSON, a publisher company who begin to adopt green technology through their distribution of instructor manual to educators. Instead providing them in the form of CD, the lecturer only need the password to browse the teaching materials.

The development of business to business, business to consumer, e-tailing, e-commerce and the like are seems familiar to the consumer as a result of technology advancement nowadays. In fact, the Internet had grown so fast and become one of the most amazing technology and social accomplishment (Schneider, 2009). It's now just depend on the user's consideration either to use it nicely or vice versa!

A web-based school management information system (SMIS)

Visiting my brother's school last week purposely to take his exam result. Facing poor management system due to the textbook records since the students should return them before the school can release the slip. Wonder why having SMIS can not help the staff or teachers managing the records efficiently while I was waiting there more than half an hour just to get a piece of paper (sigh...)

According to Brumbulli (2008), the primary goal of SMIS is to provide suitable interface to its users in order to simplify and reduce the time needed for information and procedures management related to different school activities. It suggests SMIS as a tool to keep almost all the data that can be shared, easily searched and finally to be easily generated. With reference to the above case, the effectiveness was hampered by a bureaucracy problem (Harper, 1965) due to the activities within a large complex of group with some overlapping information, different specialization of school personnel as well as various regulation and procedures.

Therefore, school's management should really have data workers who not only have the capability to collect and manage the data, but also being able to access, identify and solve the problem (Dotsika, 2006).
*Strongly agreed with the final words! (^_^)
