There is an alternative to access, keep and share your data safely without thumb drive. Even to save them from virus. Dropbox is an Internet application and can keep synchronized our file where ever, whenever. It could be another example of cloud computing I guess!
Most important, we can do any activities in the Dropbox without Internet access! It's mean, Dropbox is able to connect file transferability even if there is none Internet connection through smart phone like Android, Black Berry and iPhone or iPad.
