A web-based school management information system (SMIS)

Visiting my brother's school last week purposely to take his exam result. Facing poor management system due to the textbook records since the students should return them before the school can release the slip. Wonder why having SMIS can not help the staff or teachers managing the records efficiently while I was waiting there more than half an hour just to get a piece of paper (sigh...)

According to Brumbulli (2008), the primary goal of SMIS is to provide suitable interface to its users in order to simplify and reduce the time needed for information and procedures management related to different school activities. It suggests SMIS as a tool to keep almost all the data that can be shared, easily searched and finally to be easily generated. With reference to the above case, the effectiveness was hampered by a bureaucracy problem (Harper, 1965) due to the activities within a large complex of group with some overlapping information, different specialization of school personnel as well as various regulation and procedures.

Therefore, school's management should really have data workers who not only have the capability to collect and manage the data, but also being able to access, identify and solve the problem (Dotsika, 2006).
*Strongly agreed with the final words! (^_^)
